Slade – Gypsy Roadhog

Nenän puuterointia Sladen malliin. Biisi oli vuoden 1977 levyn ”Whatever happened to Slade” ykkössingle ja joutui aiheensa vuoksi BBC:n boikotoimaksi. Biisi kertoo kokaiinidiileristä, joka pakenee ympäri jenkkilää.

”Powdered my nose in Alabama
Out on a limb
Powdered my nose in Indiana
Ain’t that a sin
I had to get my butt out quick
It always works – the old, old trick
I got away just in the nick of time, that’s why
I powdered my nose in Oklahoma
Over the top
I wasted away in New Orleans
I couldn’t stop
Down in the alley – happy dust
Me and Romona we was gettin’ bust
I got away just in the nick of time, that’s why
I got the nickname the Gypsy Roadhog
On the California trail
I gotta keep my wheels movin’ on
I gotta keep me outa jail
Powdered my nose in San Francisco
Down on the bay
It went to my head down in New York City
I was blasted away
And two ugly scuts bust in the room
They took away my little silver spoon
I got away just in the nick of time, that’s why

I’m comin’ through, through, through
I’m looking for you”

Fleetwood Mac – Gold Dust Woman

Heroiinistahan tässä laulussa on kyse.

”Rock on, gold dust woman
Take your silver spoon
And dig your grave

Heartless challenge
Pick your path and I’ll pray

Wake up in the morning
See your sunrise, loves, to go down
Lousy lovers, pick their prey
But they never cry out loud”

Iggy Pop – China Girl

Iggy Pop kirjoitti tämän laulun yhdessä David Bowien kanssa. Ralli löytyykin myös Bowien albumilta Let’s Dance.  China girl on opiaatin vertauskuva, kiinalaisesta tytöstä lauletaan huumeena… vai onkohan tämä sitten ihan puhdas rakkauslaulu?

”I couldn’t escape this feeling
With my China Girl
I’m just a wreck without
My little China Girl
I’d hear her heart beating
Loud as thunder
Saw the stars crashing”

Neil Young – Homegrown

Luomutuotteiden puolesta… voip viitata myös kannabiksen kotikasvatukseen.

”Homegrown’s all right with me.
Homegrown is the way it should be.
Homegrown is a good thing.
Plant that bell and let it ring.

The sun comes up in the morning,
Shines that light around.
One day, without no warning,
Things start jumping up from the ground.

Well, homegrown’s all right with me.
Homegrown is the way it should be.
Homegrown is a good thing.
Plant that bell and let it ring.”

Johnny Thunders – Chinese Rocks

Chinese rocks viittaa heroiiniin. Biisin on alunperin kirjoittanut Dee Dee Ramone. Johnny Thunders kuitenkin levytti tämän biisin jo ennen Ramonesia.

”Somebody called me on the phone
They said ’hey, is Dee Dee home?’
Do you wanna take a walk
Do you wanna go and cop
Do you wanna go and get some
Chinese rocks?”

Lynyrd Skynyrd – That Smell

70-luvun puolivälissä Lynyrd Skynyrdin useat muusikot olivat sotkeutuneet heroiinin käyttöön. Heroiinin polttamisesta lähtevään hajuun viittaa biisin nimikin. Biisin kirjoittaja Van Zandt purkaa ensimmäisessä säkeistössä pelkojaan. Yhtyeen toinen kitaristi Gary Rossingtonin oli nimittäin juuri aineissa ajanut auton päin tammea.

”Whiskey bottles, and brand new cars
Oak tree you’re in my way
There’s too much coke and too much smoke
Look what’s going on inside you
Ooooh that smell
Can’t you smell that smell
Ooooh that smell
The smell of death surrounds you”
